Whale Watching

To finish our mini break we went whale watching! Here in QLD we are lucky to have the whale migration from May to September. We had always said it was something we must do but always seemed to be too busy.

The whale watching was built into the price of our room at a great rate and worked out really well as we could go straight from the resort to the boat terminal.

As per usual we were there nice and early and managed to be first on the boat. It was a sunny 25c and soon we were soaking up the sun and heading out to see the whales.

At first we just saw the water spray from a whale on the horizon, the staff got really excited. Before we had left they made a big deal about how if we didn't see a whale we would get a refund, so when we saw the "blow" I was thinking "Is that it? Is that the whale? Does that count as the whale? If that's it I will be seriously disappointed". I needn't have worried soon we had two big humpback whales playing chasies alongside the boat. They were doing a very complicated mating ritual so we saw lots of breaching, tail slapping and showy dives. It was fantastic and very special.

A quick trip back into the resort for one last relaxing look at all the animals, a rainbow double scoop ice-cream and we headed home, back to our beautiful furbabies and routine!
