Playing Grown Ups

I caught up with my closest friend this week, she is a doll and you would love her. We had a coffee together at the very good Round Table Coffee here in Bracken Ridge, we dissected life and tried to answer all the big questions. Very challenging in a lunch break.

She has had an opportunity put in front of her but isn't sure it is right to go for it, we tallied up the pro's and con's and still left a bit confused and unsure. Isn't life meant to be easier as you get older? Decisions clearer to make? I went back to the office and couldn't help think of being 16 years old, feeling the pressure of those final years of school, trying to decide what I want to be when I'm "grown up". High School had a BIG deadline at the end, you were expected to score well and then be someone, do something, study, travel, work - all those years of study and stress to ensure you would enter the world a proper grown up making the right decisions.

We certainly look like grown ups, we drive cars, have mortgages, work hard, save our money, have pets, all those things that you thought meant you were grown up when you were a child. Except I kinda don't feel like a grown up? When did it happen? Why didn't I get a party, surely there should have been cake?

Does anyone ever really grow up? I think we just become more mature, make decisions based on long term outcomes and strive for more, set goals, reach them and hopefully remember to enjoy life.

If you are still unsure if you have made it to proper adulthood do what I did and try to hold a converstation with young teens, I definitely realised I am most certainly a grown up, I even had to hold back from saying "back in my day..."
